One stumble, it looks like the install to the developer machine drops the LibXL components somewhere I didn't anticipate, as the old ones from my original purchase from LibXL themselves are found first. Would it make sense (or be possible) for the install to recognise that the components exist and replace them, or to prompt for install location?

Second. Apart from examples and a video this is lightly documented. What is the official install process for the user machines (where the client is local)?
