Default IE embedded browser control and Microsoft Edge

Next month Microsoft is pushing out the new Chromium based Edge Browser as part of Windows Update. IE is truly DOA.

Any idea on the direction Data Access will take in replacing the old IE control with either a third party Active-X control or the soon to be Microsoft supported Chromium Edge browser?

    Thanks !

    What do you mean?

Daw does not have a standard class for it. It’s just a pacakge created as part of an activeX/COM import.

I think IE will live on for sometime yet.... Try configuring some broadband routers with anything other the IE

Thanks Marco. Yes I've wrapped in 18.2 and even VDF7 (with some help from Wil)

They might be adding a new application but I can't believe the existing IE ActiveX component will go away. I think by default it is based on the IE6 or maybe 7 engine which if they removed it I suspect lots of software would break

Pretty much this. The Browser control is used by a lot of applications and is part of the operating system.
So it won't go away. Besides that Microsoft is pretty good about backwards compatibility.

re. version of what IE engine you use.
You can switch that in the html header via meta commands and you can choose the "Edge" browser mode without problems. Note however that it isn't the chromium based version AFAIK, but perhaps that comes as well.
I don't think many people use the IE6 engine anymore.

I agree with Focus and Wil. IE will probably die a long slow death. A recent personal experience. I had my vehicle serviced today. The dealership sent me a link to the services they were doing. It would not open in Brave (Chrome) nor Edge. I had to open IE to access the page. I hate that crap! Until web developers get fully on board with modern web applications, it going to be slow process to get rid of IE. I'm so glad our DF web apps work across all browsers and devices for the most part.
