Senior Visual DataFlex and DataFlex Developers/Architects Wanted!

Job Summary:

The Professional Services Division of Data Access Worldwide (DAW) is growing! We are seeking Senior Visual DataFlex (VDF) and/or legacy DataFlex (DF) Developers/Architects for current and future software development projects. While each project will be different, many projects will require a brief orientation period at the client site, followed by work that can oftentimes be performed remotely!

Senior Visual DataFlex and/or DataFlex Developers/Architects within Data Access Worldwide’s Professional Services Division may work independently, or as part of a larger team, to analyze, design, develop, deliver and/or support Visual DataFlex Windows (GUI), web, mobile-computing, and/or character mode DataFlex software applications.

Experience building web-based applications using the latest version of Visual DataFlex is a big plus!

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensure Data Access Worldwide’s clients’ overall project-related expectations are continually met
  • Create high-quality business requirement documents that fully meet client expectations
  • Work with others to identify and mitigate potential adverse business and technical impacts prior to development
  • Design, develop, test, and deliver graphical user interface Visual DataFlex (Windows and/or web-based) and/or character mode DataFlex (DOS and/or Unix) software applications that meet the business requirements
  • Develop and execute appropriate unit, module and system test plans to ensure personal deliverables are of high-quality at all times
  • Proactively work to anticipate, identify, prevent and mitigate potential performance-related issues
  • Proactively identify, mitigate and/or escalate project risks that may otherwise cause expectations to be unmet
  • When appropriate, work to improve overall software throughput, performance, and quality by minimizing coding redundancies and maximizing code reuse by using or extending VDF’s and DF’s application frameworks and/or implementing other source code consolidations
  • Take appropriate action to quickly and diplomatically resolve any issues that may arise
  • Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with client and all project personnel at all times
  • When appropriate, research and recommend tools and/or methods for improving the software design, development, and delivery processes
  • Perform any other duties as may be required or assigned
Qualifications:
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or information systems
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently analyze and propose effective solutions for moderate-to-complex technical issues
  • Two or more years of extensive object-oriented programming experience using Visual DataFlex, and its Data Dictionary object, in high-transaction, mission-critical environments preferred
  • One or more years of extensive experience using legacy character mode DataFlex in mission-critical environments preferred
  • Extensive experience designing and developing powerful, highly intuitive, and easy-to-use, user interfaces
  • Experience designing, developing and integrating reports using reporting software such as Crystal Reports, Visual Report Writer (VRW), DataFlex’s legacy Report Macro, or other reporting software (SSRS, Access, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience extending Visual DataFlex’s and/or DataFlex’s reusable software application frameworks preferred
  • Experience using Visual DataFlex’s AJAX Library for web-based development preferred
  • Experience integrating Windows APIs and/or other technologies into DF and/or VDF programs preferred
  • Experience designing, developing and integrating electronic data interchanging (EDI) software preferred
  • Experience designing and developing DataFlex-based web services preferred
  • Extensive experience designing, creating and working with DF’s embedded database tables and indices preferred
  • Two or more years of experience designing, monitoring and optimizing relational database tables, indices, stored procedures, triggers, constraints, views, etc. preferred
  • Experience integrating Visual DataFlex or DataFlex applications with Microsoft SQL Server and/or IBM DB2 strongly preferred
  • Web-based software development experience using (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, .ASP, etc.) strongly preferred
  • Experience using DAW’s Electos Web Content Management System a plus
  • Experience using DAW’s Dynamic AI for BI (Artificial Intelligence for Business Intelligence) a plus
  • Some familiarity with Microsoft .NET, C# and/or Java-based development a plus
  • Highly familiar with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation)
  • Excellent mentoring and interpersonal skills
