Default Re: VDF User Count Problem

    Clive,
I have seen this quite a few times over the years.
We have come to the conclusion that the file becomes orphaned and it hasn't been closed automatically.
So you need to manually close the file / process / session.

    There are only two ways.
    1) Restart the server that holds the data
    2a) Data on a non-terminal services server
    - Use "computer management" under windows control panel / Administrative Tools.
    - Now you will need to be on the server that holds the data. Otherwise you will need to connect to the data server by right clicking on the "Computer Management (Local)" in the tree view and "connect to another computer"
    - Then under: System Tools | Shared Folders | Open Files
    - Find the offending file and right click to close.
    - or Close the session from the "Sessions" tree view section. Again right click on the session and close / disconnect.
2b) On a terminal services server there should be a program that display all the session logged on. This is the program you will need to use to close the offending file / session.

Hope this helps in relation to resetting / closing user counts.
