Default VDF 16.1, peer to peer windows 7 platform failures

Is there a problem running vdf 16.1 on a peer to peer Windows 7 platform. Our application has no problems on a real server platform like Windows 2007.

Little problems are cropping up like:
    1) when printing to a file, the browse button to change folders returns an error "can not logon to database".
    2) some parts of views run slow, like pop-ups that enter additional data.
    3) some batch views that update all kinds of records at month-end, run slow.

    Any ideas will be appreciated,
    Thanks.

I've run all sorts of VDF apps on peer-to-peer for years with no problems. Of course a true server is best, but with under 8 or so machines, they do fine. I do make a point of running all batch processes on the "server". Also make sure that other applications on "the server" aren't hogging bandwidth/processor time & that you have Oplocks configured correctly.

    How many users ?
Is it using the Embedded DB
I think W7 has a limit of 20 SMB connections and each user will take two
This limit on XP was 10. Did you have this kind of setup on XP in the past ?

Thanks Focus for the quick response... our user had 8 PCs on a XPsp3 peer2peer network running VDF7 with no problems. The odd problems started when they were upgraded to a Windows 7 peer2peer with 8 stations running the same application that was migrated to VDF16.1. We are using the embedded DB.

Thanks, Garret for the quick reply. Where can I find updated documentation on "oplocks" for Windows 7?

    Yoobet.

However, I'll take a guess that your biggest problem is VDF 7. The current is 16.1 & 17 is on its way this fall - so you are ~10 full versions back.

Have you tried running the app in compatibility mode? Search Windows Help for "compatibility mode" to learn more. It can go all the way back to Windows 98 compatibility I think.

I think you misunderstood... we have upgraded to VDF16.1 on a Windows 7 peer2peer. We are NOT running VDF7 on a Windows 7 peer2peer. Actually the old VDF7 ran just fine on an XPpro peer2peer, but of course, new PCs (Windows 7) would have problems, thus the upgrade to VDF16.1.

The whitepaper you mentioned does not mention Windows 7. Are the registry changes the same for Windows 7?

Read the text & ignored the title - sorry!

I would do the workstation changes mentioned there - though DAW folks might have a different suggestion.

A slow lookup usually means a constrain issue - i.e. a constrain without a good index.

I sent a request to DAW regarding oplocks for Windows 7. I'll let you know. In the meantime, thanks for all your help.
