I got an e-mail this morning about a new version of Crystal Reports
(2008) that is due out, and I was shocked to see that they said they are
not supporting the RDC. According to the e-mail, this is in line with
Microsoft's plan to depreciate COM support, which I didn't know either.
Actually, I just looked that up and it seems Business Objects is using
the support depreciation of VC++ 6 and VB 6 to mean that Microsoft isn't
supporting COM, which is just plain false. The new versions of VC++ that
ship with Visual Studio do support COM fully and you can create COM
objects using any of their latest development tools...

It seems that Crystal Deployment options will be .Net, Java, or the
Reporting Servers. The Reporting Server was WAY too expensive for us
when we looked at it.

Has anyone looked into options to replace Crystal in the future? What is
available?
