Question Login timeout - can we replace it with session cookies?

Why is there a fixed login timeout? It's quite annoying to have to log in every time I have time to look at it - twice so far today - even when I haven't closed the browser. Can you set session cookies to allow the session to remain open whilst the user's browser session is open?I know I can set it to "remember me", but I don't auto-log onto sites (for security reasons).
