    I suspect when it comes part of other big stuff like SSMS it probably adds it to the environment variable path list perhaps

    BTW I've always found windows explorer search works best with part of a filename. If you put the full thing in it hardly ever works

    Can you use SQLCMD from that workstation ? Something like

    sqlcmd -S <remoteip> -U <user> -p -Q "SELECT @@VERSION"

    The browser should be running on the server to help workstations find it. Which i'm sure it is as the other one works

    I assume the SQL Browser service is running on the server ?

    The PC that works doesn't have an entry in it's HOSTS file to resolve the name does it ?

    Does it work if you use the IP address in...
