You really shouldn't use DfTimers in webapps..

Okay thanks Harm, no idea this was even possible. Never seen it mentioned in the help as far as I can remember.

    Re: cWebGrid layout

As far as I know, when entering a new row of columns you're always restricted to the width of the columns in the first row. Only piListColSpan is usefull then.

Re: HOWTO: Schedule Webapp Stop and Start ?

We use a C# program running as a task to do something like this, works fine.

    Re: WebApp size

Okay, I did really not realize DF_FIELD_LENGTH was in bytes. So going to UTF-8 might just cut the amount of characters you can enter in your forms in half, will be interesting to see the...

Re: How to trap key entries in a cWebForm?

If you want a specific key, use the AddKeyHandler procedure.
If you want to check each character entered.. no.

    Re: WebApp size

What? For VARCHAR & NVARCHAR what you see on the column is the length, not the actual storage size. So what you're saying doesn't make sense.
I highly doubt DF_FIELD_LENGTH is suddenly in bytes...

    Re: WebApp size

So I was thinking about DF 2020.
Being UTF-8 a character can be 1 or 2 bytes, does that mean the RAM usage for the tables will be double? Or atleast a good amount larger?

    Yeah that could prevent...

    Re: WebApp size

I'm not disagreeing at all, you have no idea how suprised I was when I started here that we have stuff with +1000 tables..:cool: Worst part is, most of those are actually quite clever, we...

    Re: WebApp size

Still cheaper then modifying our giant codebase..

Kinda besides the point though, an open table still consumes a lot of memory. That's not entirely the programmer's fault

If time was free, then sure we could do it  But in reality that's never going to happen. The webapp works ;)

That's not a bad idea, but impossible to apply to a very large existing codebase..

    Re: WebApp size

    Samuel,

Thanks, that explains my findings. We have a lot of TEXT fields, which is expected looking at the amount of tables we have. And some are +250 columns...

    Re: WebApp size

    Focus,

Even though I'm using the Mertech driver, you can clearly see the memory consumption exploding while simply doing the open's themselves. No finds are done yet.

    Re: WebApp size

We're having exactly the same results (+1000 tables..). Our webapp process started without doing much consumes around ~300MB and can grow to 380MB after good usage.

  19. Internal expression error STACK: nested Pos()

So we had some new code that contains a nested Pos().

It works if you split the 2 Pos() into their own...

The moment the user reloads your page the Server property value is gone. If you want it to last their entire session (and survive refreshes), use ServerSession.

Re: FIND GE gives me a stranage behaviour

You really shouldn't be doing such things while retrieving data through SQL (cursors..). By default the SQL commands work on the same "connection" as the Dataflex side.

  23. Re: Server WebProperties strings with special encoding

    Alberto,

We're using Mertech aswell. Maybe this won't be a problem anymore in DF 2020? :)

  24. Re: Server WebProperties strings with special encoding

    +1,

We've had to overwrite a server property somewhere in the framework to be a client property because of this. I don't think it's really an ANSI problem though, as even the character '' can...
