Hello there,

Re: Custom font
Salvadori,
It is an error given by Crystal itself. You have no control over this from DataFlex.
Note that Crystal XI should be really be replaced. The latest XI version is over 14 years old, there is no support from the current owners and there will be no 64 bit unicode version. On top of that this version does not know about all changes made in databases such as MSSQL over the past 14 years.

:/
yeah NextGen just arrived and i still have some reports on crystal, i really don't want to use crystal anymore, but its sad that DF Reports cant do basic function that crystal do 14 years ago.
it's a pain to edit a function with text + db_fields, some times i really need to edit my text with colors, bold etc...it's a lot more easily doing it on crystal
and the big point -> JUSTIFY
you get my point? how can i explain to my customer that i cant justify their text on 2020?

Re: Custom font
Salvadori,
DataFlex 2020 is just one of the extra reasons to abandon Crystal Reports. Crystal Reports latest version dates from March 2016, so soon 4 years ago).
We know the limitations of DataFlex Reports and we never stated that it would be a full rewrite of Crystal Reports.
Combine constant text and variable data is should be done via functions and we know you cannot mark up the text then. This "simple" text markup is on the list but it is not decided when we will work on this.
I am surprised to see Crystal Reports had a justify option as it is not a feature of the Windows API, so they must have developed something on their own. I personally never used justify in any report but that does not mean no-one does. What are you using it for?

Thanks for the feedback Vincent, keep in mind that all requests come from my customers, maybe here in south america the justify feature is more common.
E.g.

this customer in specific have a report to print a "contract" which have more than 10 pages, filled with text markup, custom font and images, when i tried to rewrite on dr, I had difficulties on text markup, justfy, combine constant with variables, with many objects the dr IDE get very slowed...
now i'm on 80% of my reports written on DR working good, but the others 20% it's a big headache :(

Re: Custom font
While by no means ideal - or even good, what I did on a report that required justification and some words bolded (a contract also) was to put it in Word, get it looking the way I wanted & make an image from it & then use the image on DR. In a PDF you can tell it's an image, but when printed, it's harder to tell.

Re: Custom font
Samuel,
I personally see no reason, advantage for justify in the example documents/output. It only spreads the words a bit.

Re: Custom font
Garret,
You could have combined RTF with color / bold etc formatting combined with variable data. However I hesitate a bit in advising RTF as it is no longer offers a future path. RTF is not present/supported in the web. So we are looking at a better solution.

Re: Custom font
Sorry to disagree Vincent, but the simple answer is "If the customer requests it, we need to supply it".
Lawyers are a picky group - after all, it's what they are paid to be. Another developer & I had a law practice package in 2.3. We had to set up a lot of output to go to a text file, so they could open it in WordPerfect & massage it before printing. Nowadays, they expect the software to do it for them.

Re: Custom font
Perhaps it is a specific 'security feature' for them ... someone can't remove a word from the end of a line before photocopying it without someone noticing
Then again it might just be the legal equivalent of programmers tabs or spaces ...
