Windows Desktop Applications are Second Class Citizens...
OK so it IS a very click bait-ish title, but it does seem to me like all of the new development and marketing work at DAW is WebApp based. I'm on-boarding a new junior programmer this week, and all the introductory stuff, and basic sessions in the learning center are WebApp based, but THIS company only does Windows 10 desktop applications. The web stuff just presents solutions to problems I don't have.
I'd like to see at least SOME of the new material being aimed at the desktop.

Michael,
There is still the book Discovering DataFlex for Windows...
Re: Windows Desktop Applications are Second Class Citizens...
Hi, Michael
Interesting topic.
Don't feel alone.
I particularly believe that the safest environment for the corporation is for the application to be on a Windows server, since we no longer have Netware!
Okay, that these days, you can't live without the Internet.
I still find it frustrating a last episode experienced in a 20 year anniversary event for Data Access Latin America, in which a guest speaker tried to demonstrate the application and something on the Web spoiled everything.
Very common here in Brazil you need any service based on Web applications and receive infinite error codes, that is, it works, it works, but when you want, then the famous phrase:
Try later . . . for me it doesn't go well.
The great promise of Web development, was to run on any platform, it just seems to have forgotten, that each browse is a different story.
Considering in my statistics the development in Windows, in 21 years of operation the application stopped 3 times, being:
- Disk crash.
- Arqserver interference on the license file in network mapping. (This was the most serious and difficult to understand).
- Overflow in the capacity of a embedded Dataflex of storage of compressed texts.
I congratulate all the developers of the Dataflex community, who work in WEB and can certainly argue against it, but I ask:
How many times has the Web application been interrupted in 1 year?
Regards,
