View Full Version : Preparing my laptop

While I've been in the DataFlex community for over 20 years, I've never
dome much with either Visual DataFlex or Web App. (My clients are all
running on Linux systems using DF 3.2 character mode.) So consider me a
novice in this regard.

I just purchased a new laptop with wireless connectivity in preparation
for Synergy 2005. It is running Windows XP Pro. The services section
says that the IIS service is running.

I've downloaded the DF 11.0 RC files to my system and installed them,
taking the defaults for all answers. (I'm particularly interested in
the Electos session on Sunday, which requires DF 11.0 running on my
laptop. I wish the session on extending character mode DataFlex
applications was not at the same time, because I really wanted to hit
that too.) I got several errors that said "DataFlex not installed"
while the install was trying to compile things.

Which of the three zip files do I need to install? I obviously need the
studio, but what about the client and server?

Where do I put the cfg file that I downloaded?

What about license codes?

What specific steps do I need to do to get this running?

I'm very excited about Synergy 2005. My main client wants to develop a
new web site that will include connecting to our DataFlex database.
I'm anxious to actually start using VDF, Web App, and Electos.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You only need the Studio for development. Server is for a the servers
you want to deploy VDF Web Applications to. Client is for the PCs or
the local network system you want to deploy VDF Windows Applications to.

The .cfg file is probably the configuration file for automated client
install, to bundle with your Windows Application.

The Studio install comes with a preinstalled trial license for the
Studio and limited licenses for the connectivity kits.

Install Studio. If something goes wrong this will need further
investigation.
