Is anyone using RDS Postgres on AWS with a create database statement and Mertech driver? We've had some trouble getting this to work...

Bob,

I've ran PostgreSQL on many things, not AWS though, but don't really see why that matters.

But you've not really given us anything to work with.

What PostgreSQL version?

What host OS?

Did you configure the pg_hba.conf file?

Did you open the firewall (assuming the default.. you would have to open port 5432). If the client is local then you probably still have to tell in the pg_hba.conf file. Can you telnet to that port 5432?

Is the client running on the same host or on another (AWS?) machine?

Have you tried connecting with another -non DataFlex- client, say pgAdmin?

If pgAdmin works, do you have all the requirements for the mertech driver installed?
(Required files on client library besides the driver are:
comerr32.dll
krb5_32.dll
libeay32.dll
libiconv-2.dll
libintl-2.dll
libpq.dll
Pgoledb.dll
)

Just a few questions from the top of my head...

edit: googled it "https://aws.amazon.com/rds/postgresql/pricing/ " RDS for Postgres, OK amazon has their own internal version again.
Never mind, I go back to sit in my corner and weep.

Hi Wil,
Sorry about posting that vague question, I'm in the middle between my systems guy and the forum and at this point not terribly knowledgeable about AWS. We are successfully running Postgres on AWS at this point. What we haven't been able to do is create another instance of the database for testing by use of CREATE_DATABASE when connected to AWS RDS Postgres. We are not trying to use any other tools than psql.exe (version 12).

Hopefully that's a little clearer than my previous posting. I thought I'd posted this a couple of days ago but my laptop has been intermittently crashing and I obviously lost what I was writing.

Bob,

Ok, createdb you mean?

Here's a cheat sheet website I had bookmarked a while back, it may help.

https://tomcam.github.io/postgres/

Oh and for users from Linux or macOS, there's also this:
http://pgcli.com/

(There's so much good stuff)
