Data Access Worldwide is pleased to announce the release of the alpha-test version of DataFlex 2014 - 18.0.

DataFlex is a complete, proven business application development and deployment platform for Windows and web business applications. By developing in a single language for different environments, DataFlex provides faster development and lower total application cost than competitors.

DataFlex 2014 advances the platform's feature set for Windows and web applications and implements numerous enhancements and customer suggestions to drive developer productivity up and total application cost down.

The first alpha-test release of DataFlex 2014 enables customers to begin familiarization and testing and to provide feedback on the many new features and capabilities. Beta releases will follow with a final production release anticipated in early 2nd quarter 2014.

At a summary level, DataFlex 2014 delivers:


New Branding – This release begins the product's transition from Visual DataFlex to DataFlex to build a consistent, recognizable brand for all Data Access Worldwide products



Product-wide optimizations for SQL servers – As part of a new multi-release initiative to optimize DataFlex's use with SQL database servers, DataFlex 2014 - 18.0 implements new SQL-related features and enhancements across in every part of the product including the drivers, data dictionaries, DataFlex Web Framework classes and the Studio. These features put more of the power of SQL in developers' hands and enable them to deliver higher-performance, easier-to-use applications to application users.



Developer productivity enhancements – The DataFlex 18.0 Studio includes many exciting new capabilities designed to increase developer productivity and efficiency, to provide more seamless integration among major development components, to further simplify web development and to take even better advantage of SQL databases. Among the features are:

A table viewer
A table editor
Table Explored filtering
A reorganized Class Palette
Find in Files enhancements
New Workspace Explorer features
And much more…




New and expanded core product capabilities for both Windows and Web applications



New Data Dictionary features…

New SQL Filter methods that make it possible to set SQL filters at the DD object instance level
New Constraint inspection methods that allow developers to query information about all of the constraints for a DDO. This is useful for debugging and optimizations
Enhanced DD debug dialog (dd_debug.dg) that lets you inspect DDO constraints and SQL filters


A new class for character encoding and translation
The Client Web Services and WSDL parser have been re-written to keep up with contemporary web services uses and the growing complexity of the web services in general



Continued expansion of the DataFlex Web Framework - The DataFlex Web Framework enables the development of desktop-like business applications in popular web browsers. Now, in its second release, several refinements and new capabilities are available in the framework including:



Numerous List and Grid enhancements
A file upload control
A Cookie API
Wait dialogs, a Progress Bar, Custom Key Handlers, a Suggestion Form, a Group Control and much more
Numerous other new DataFlex product features, capabilities, enhancements and bug fixes
