Hi All,

With Windows Server 2008, soon to be released, I was wondering if
anybody has done already some (preliminary) testing of WebApp server and
of VDF?

Expecially the TS RemoteApp function excites me very much, to be used
for our VDF applications. No longer any DLL's or registries or anything
needs to be installed on the client PC. The whole application runs on
the Server, while the user thinks it runs local...

This makes upgrades and rollouts soo much easier... We now use quite a
bit of remote desktop, but this confuses users, at it behaves to
different compared to a local app. Microsoft says this is now completely
addressed...

Also with ofcourse wanting webservers to always have the safest
environment I also be keen to move this to 2008 as soon as possible.

Please advice if anybody had already a play (including DAW).

Cheers,
Marco

Marco,

Although I think 2008 support is important...how about some support for
64 bit OSs???

I don't care if it uses 64 bit code...but atleast let me run a webapp on
a 64bit server!!!

Oliver - Not quite what you refer to but web app oder sample runs fine on 64
vista ultimate operating system

There was a tricky (hidden) setting to do which is explained earlier in the
2008 newgroup

Don't know about 64bit hardware though

Can't run a 12 webapp on 64 bit 2003 server.

or WinPrint for that matter

So far, so good.
I'm very excited about this.

Printing (WinPrint?) crashes it the first few times in, but then seems to stabilise.
I'm not sure what we'll do about that.
Yet another reason to bite the bullet and upgrade to VDF12
Either that or convert all reports to crystal.

The Remote App stuff works great.

If you want to test RemoteApp and Remote Printing on XP Service Pack 2, then you need to
either install XP Service Pack 3 on your machine, or follow the instructions
http://www.ivobeerens.eu/wordpress/?p=8
(Change Vista to Win2K8)

Remote Printing needs the latest .Net framework service pack installed on the client.
