Hello

We have started some testing with the released Visual Report Writer.

Two problems for starting:

First:
1. We created a small test Workspace just to do some first steps with VRW.
2. A test .vrw was created and saved with some codemast/codetype dummy information.
3. we could export this to pdf with "File"->"Export"->pdf
4. Back to Studio we tried to use the wizard to integrate the vrw and just received crashs (as seen on the image)
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/5580/errornq.jpg

Second:
In a Webapplication there is a standard error that this component can not be added to web project.

Our Goal:
We would like to create VRW and integrate them to our webApp as following:
We call a custom function that starts runreport, creates a pdf out of it and returns the pdf's path.
so we can stream it over the web as we are used to do.

We would be pleased to get some help, hints or examples.

Niels,

Next Thursday at the Scanduc 2009 I will present the Visual DataFlex VPE Library. This library is developed by Arnold Franken of Data Access Europe. I haved used all sorts of diplomacy to get this done by DAW or DAE. Two weeks ago I got the first beta release and with that library we have created my first streaming PDF report in WebApp. It is running for a week in production now. After the Scanduc the VPE Library will be released as a beta (and it just works). The VPE Library is another tool than VRW. You have to build your reports like WinPrint2 reports. Depending on your needs this can be an advantage or not. (In the future I think I will use both, but I am very happy with the current VPE Library now).

Dear Niels,

I have duplicated the reported behavior and logged it for further inspection.

I am not sure if this first version of Visual Report Writer should already support web based reports.

Peter,
Thanks a lot. We have also already in use a solution with VPE - PDF (over the library from Starzen) for our web-applications. (Since a year). Have a look at www.raumfinder.ch (http://www.raumfinder.ch/) and those a "Raum" and print it out. We ONLY use VPE as printout from VDF since years.

The wish is to be up to date, and if DataAccess offer a solution for WEB-systems we want to give it a try. (but not over winprint). It's look like that we have to wait.
We have seen the announcement for scanduc and have notice that your VPE solution is over winprint.
We follow this item very close and is looking forward to look at your VPE library.
Best regards
Niels Mathiesen

Niels,

Interesting. I will look at www.raumfinder.ch (http://www.raumfinder.ch) this evening.

The VPE Library is a real VPE solution, but it uses the WinPrint commands. For developers with an installed base of WinPrint reports this is a big advantage. It just feels like a real DAW solution. I am also using VPE for years, but I use the classes of TUFware. I have to rewrite my reports a little, but last friday I have put my first real VPE report in production. I don't have a public demo yet, but I expect that there will be a public demo of the VPE Libary soon.
