View Full Version : Easier way to find (new) activeX

Hi fellow developers,

It sometimes can drive me nuts, trying to locate this new activeX that
you just downloaded and installed.

After some two years on the machine, I've got 196 objects to choose
from. Probably some of you even have more.

The documentation of the activeX, almost never states the name of the
component as how I can find it back in the list.

I was thinking about the following major improvements that could be done
in the studio:
1. Search by keyword (in the list of the screen)

perhaps even

2. Search by DLL/OCX name (this is often in the documentation, and is
displayed on the screen, it just takes a lot of time scrolling though
all, if it is not obvious).

or even

3. Where somehow, you could 'save' the list before you install a new
component. Then after you installed it, you could perhaps select 'new
ones only'.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I thought I had complained about that before.

I would like to see the ActiveX list broke down between ActiveX which we have
already created a PKG for and those we have not.

Yes, it would be nice to see activeX based on install date. I don't think the
install date is something stored in the registry, but perhaps for each *.dll or
*.ocx listed, VDF could get the file created date and the list can be sorted by this
(optionally). I also think it would be nice to sort by the DLL/OCX name.

Name | File Name | Date |
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for bringing this up again.

Agree. As you state the name of the ActiveX is in a lot of cases not the
name how it appears in the list to select from
