View Full Version : Suggestion: Change in the property-window

Hi
I've got a (as you might can imagine) problem:
I've some objects in my view (let's say more than 100), most of them
(db)forms. I'd like to change the properties of more than one object at a
time. (i.e. select them all and then set the properties they got in common)
It's a bit disturbing to set every property manually...

kind regards
Raphal Theiler

Some times I switch to full-source mode and do a search-n-replace to do a
lot of objects at once. I have to do a search first to make sure that I
won't affect other code...

but that is just a work around.

Yes but if you make rows and columns and you want to colorize every second
row, etc it won't work ;)
My work with VDF would be much easier with such features...

Can you suggest how this could be implemented? I have tried to use these
features in Crystal Reports here is what happens...

You have multiple text objects. One is a different font size, some are
Italics, Some are Blue. I want to change all of their fonts from Times New
Roman to Arial. So I select all of them and change the font. WHAMO! They all
have the same font, size, color, and italic state. I would have liked
Crystal to only change the property that I edited... but it doesn't.

What properties should be able to be set this way? Object name, label,
file.field? Where do you draw the line? What if multiple objects are
selected that don't have the same properties? Then what? It might be nice...
but what if DAW doesn't implement it the way _you_ want it?

We should start a discussion here on how is should work.. and if we can get
a common ground that is acceptable, then maybe DAW can look into
implementing it.

1) What properties should NOT be allowed to change with multi-select

2) Should you be allowed to change properties of multiple types of objects?

3) How should values be displayed in the properties box when some values are
different from other objects selected?

My suggestion for VDF:
- Show all the properties which all the selected objects got in common.
(show the entry in the list)
-> if all of the selected objects got the same value for one property show
it
-> if any of the selected objects has different value, show only the
property (let the value empty)
Important: save only changed values.

And I'm takling about Visual DataFlex Studio (not Crystal or anything else)
but i guess it would be nice in any IDE ;)
