View Full Version : Compiler Dialog

Does anyone else think the compiler dialog needs to be resizable (and
remember size) so that the error window is at least readable without needing
to use scrollbars to move left/right

Hi Chris,

Nice idea but I would take this further. My preference is to have a
separate window to report the error messages in. Perhaps something
similar to my attachment. This offers two advantages. Firstly you don't
have to wait for the compilation to finish to find out you have a
problem, which can easily happen if you get distracted, and secondly
with the error messages reported separately you can ponder what to do
without having to drag the scroll-bar back continuously to read the
error message.

So a suggestion should be posted officially to widen the compiler dialog 9or
make resizable) and provide a seperate edit for display errors.

PS
I have looked on DAWs site. has the offer a suggestion page been removed?

Yes please

..... and how about mmaking the 'halt' button more speedy? In most of
my compiles pressing halt stops the compile rather slower than letting
it finish.

Hi Chris,

no, it's still there:

go to the main support page at http://www.dataaccess.com/support,
scroll down to section 1. "How We Support Our Products", bullet number
4 "Submitting Bugs and Suggestions". Here you will see a link to the
Support Bug Report form.

Perhaps it has something to do with a feature I don't find useful, and more
of a nuisance. The package it stops compiling on is opened in the Studio. I
never use this. Why does it even do that? It'll never be on the pkg that has
the error.

Please remove that feature.

And while on the subject, has anyone (other than me) had the need for a
pause button? In a long compile, the CPU can be effectively "frozen" when I
find I need to do something urgent. Given the length of the compile and
that I'd rather not restart it, pausing seems to be a good option.

Clive, your suggestion is great, I'd vote for resizing and and error window.
Bob

Have you done anything special to get much use out of the second
processor? Withoiut some sort of tweaking it doesn't seem to have
added anything...

Dave,

No I did nothing special to the Setup. There is just "power" left over to
other things when you are compiling, running a business process, to do other
computer stuff like reading an email. I can run 2 compiles compiling both a
big program and start excel without much delay.

No just running XP. Compiling will not be faster but I am always able to do
a second thing, opening and reading email no problem. Even when running 2
compiles at the same time leaves me enough power to do things.
