We have been developing more and more apps designed to run on machines with
multiple monitors. (That BIG desktop is a real bonus for a number of our
users.) Would it be possible to clean up the multiple monitor issues in the
Studio and the runtime? (Hopefully, as the Studio is developed in VDF, the
fixes to the runtime would solve both.)

Anyone else out there running dual monitors want to speak/support this
issue?

Paul,

Yes! I've got the same problem too. It would be nice if this would br fixed.

Paul,

I have my second monitor standing as utility monitor. Not as one wide
desktop. With one wide desktop as I understands it works better, but never
tested it.
It is not only VDF which has problems. There are many other programs which
have troubles working with dual monitors. Microsoft has it fair share to.
And crystal to. Did not test in CRXI. But if I have crystal open in my
Utility monitor and drag and drop a field crw exits very gracefully with a
gpf.

I've not had any issues using the second monitor, except that I can't
predict with any certainty when a program is going to be sticky to the
second screen and when its going to keep popping up on the primary.

So, what other issues are there?

Depending upon which screen the application runs from, the drop down and
selection lists will pop up on the other monitor is the biggest problem as I
see it. There are a few other little gotcha's but they are pretty minor.

One of the times I see a problem is when I have the "Properties" page
pulled up - in this example on my left hand monitor - and I right click
on one of the options (such as "label justification Mode" or
"peanchors") and the box that pops up is on the bottom right hand side
of my right hand monitor. This problem is the box is about as far away
from the properties dialog as it could be. This is one that irritates me.

Crystal 10 has even a nastier problem. If the Crystal design window is
stretched across the two monitors, dragging fields from the selector on the
left monitor to the report design tab on the right will crash the program.
100% repeatable and frustrating as all get out.

Paul,

For the runtime, I wrote a multi monitor support package for you guys that
allows placement of windows on any enumerated display. Could have many more
capabilities also, but that was all that was needed when it was written.

Paul,

There is some logic in the panel to position it within the margins of the
screen. That are windows calls to decide where it should be. Maybe they
could be improved or are there other API calls which handle better the multi
monitor situation. Not my stuff. But maybe other know more about that.

Paul,

Maybe badly put but that is the one I tried to point to.
Are you working with a wide desktop or as me with a utility monitor ?

Yes... Dual monitors side by side on the same workstation.

We are also seeing general GPF errors with Crystal 10 that just blows you
out of the app.... sometimes while it's just sitting there. I'm in the
process of installing the SP1 and hotfixes to see if we can get around this.
Seems to be more of a developer problem vs an end user one.
