View Full Version : Searching in the Help - a DISD topic...

To all,

In the Q&A session at the end of DISD, a few developers mentioned a
problem with the search (not the index, but the text search) not finding
things in the help. I was not aware of this issue, and asked for
examples that I could use to try to deal with the situation. Someone
suggested select_toggling and I wrote that down to test when I got back.
Unfortunately, select_toggling finds three page references in every help
system from 9.1 through 11.0.

Can anyone out there give me other examples of something you know is in
the help but that is not found on a search?

Best regards,

Select_Toggling was intended to be an example of a method that is not
indexed under class methods. It can be found under the search but if
you did not know it exists you would never find it in the class help.

Stephen,

A good example of this is the View_Name property. It's defined in the
EnClient.Pkg but can't be found in the help anywhere.

Stephen,

I encounterd another today -
Default_Combo_Item
VDF10.1

A search on Combo_Default_Item reveals only a reference to a bug fix
in VDF10.0

This property, found in combo_mx.pkg It is not othewise found anywhere
in help.

Is this method obsolete? Private?

I had no luck in setting this property to obtain the desired default
value in a comboform.

VDF 11.0
Better late than never.

I just wanted some clarification on the Entering procedure. But, whether I
Search on entering or "entering", I get the same bazillion hits. But the
problem is that the descriptions have every form of Enter, Entered, Enters,
No-Enter, but mostly not Entering. If 'Entering' is in there, it is in a
sentence like, 'When you are entering data ....'. Not realy 'help'ful. :-)
Of all the topics it finds, not one is the word 'Entering'. Using the
Index, it finds one lone topic but no examples of useage. This seems like a
very often used procedure. Maybe just one example? Also a Search on
"procedure entering" (with quotes), finds no topics at all.

My 2c worth,

Tod Brannen

Don't search free text when you want to find by keyword. Typing
"entering" as a keyword gives just tree hits, all from the same
class-tree. There is the Entering procedure documentation.
