View Full Version : Moveable (phantom?) compiler error

An interesting thing has begun to happen when compiling one of my
applications... a single error per this example...

ERROR: 4306 Forward reference not resolved END$10885 ON LINE: 333 (371662)
OF FILE: C:\dev\widget\DDSrc\widget.DD

Pay no heed to "widget", which I made up. It is not a problem in the .DD for
this reason...

What's odd is, if I move the offending view or report somewhere else in the
compile order, the same error will occur, but it will cite a different line
of code in a different view or report! It moves. And the error happens in
view or report objects that have not been modified in years.

Perhaps some maximum capacity in the compiler or DFRUN has finally been
encountered, due to progressive growth of the app. But then I would expect
to hit a wall followed by lots of errors.

This error occurs one time in one view which is about 80-90% of the way
through the app (measured by command line order), and then it never repeats.
In fact, there is only one error during the compile, which does NOT abort
early.

What's consistent is that the error always begins...

"Forward reference not resolved END$10885 "

When I check the code, there is indeed an "End" command on the referenced
line. But it makes no sense.

Has anyone else every seen "Forward reference not resolved END$10885" when
compiling a large application? This app is still being compiled by VDF 6.2.

Thanks for any insights, comments... even guffaws are welcomed.

Nick
