When I run Electos Site Manager, I get these errors shown in the
attachments. I am missing either or a Role or Feature, not installed yet. I
have installed ASP.NET, it may be the MIME? I cannot find the install for
that one.

David.

David,

Have you looked at:
http://www.visualdataflex.com/Include/ElectosFileStreaming.asp?FileId=729
http://www.dataaccess.com/kbasepublic/KBPrint.asp?ArticleID=2273

And the topics about Vista in the What's new for 14.0 in the VDF help.

Windows 2008 server is comparable to Vista and thus all the settings should
be checked.

VDF14.1 officially supports Windows 2008 Server but I am not sure if Electos
3.1 was tested and approved on it.

I installed VDF 14.1 RC Studio on my Windows Web Server 2008. Ir I at
least tried to do so. This is not detailed and accurate bug report.

It seemed to have trouble setting up MyWebSite. The wizard for creating
a new web site would not finish (sometimes no error displayed, sometimes
with "Could not find registry key"or just status 500). This I think may
be because it could not copy the Common\NewWebSiteTemplate files to the
Websites folder.

The data files was not reindexed and there even was duplicates in the
LangTrans table. The new web application was not created. The process
probably aborted at some point.

I reinstalled, and made sure the ProgramData folder was writeable. This
seemed to help, but Electos webapp still complained about opening the
"common" data tables. This seems to a bug in the Electos.v3-1.ws config
file. The second Data folder was wrongly set to a path relative to the
Home path, but wen installing to a separate data folder (as was default
in the setup) this is not the case. Correcting this manually, by using
the absolute path, seemed to fix this.

After several hours of trial and error it seems it finally works now. I
can at lest create a new web site correctly, and manage the sites wihout
status 500.

Warning: For those using a langauge install, the Electos Studio for any
new site must show the admin username and admin password warning the
first time. Otherwise the site data tables are not reindexed. This is
very difficult to do manually, as there is no workspace or filelist
containing them. It's not sufficuient just to reindex the User table.

Strange: I now get a warning sayng that this "Standard Edition" will
expire in some days. According to the documentation there is no such
edition. I guess this is a left over from previous versions of Electos,
and may disappear when I install VDF Server on my Web Server. It seems
to be an odd combination to have Studio installed on a server OS. I
haven't tried Electos 3.1 on neither Vista nor XP, using a VDF Studio
installation.

Another warning: Managing IIS 7 is very, very different from managing
IIS 6. If somethings fails with status 500, and it happens very often,
always recycle the worker process pool before trying again.

What was causing the error David experienced in this case was a Windows Server 2008 setting.

Since he is running 64-bit Windows, he needed to turn on the 32-bit application support on Windows server 2008 (see details at http://www.dataaccess.com/enews/2008/Windows_x64Support_20081001.pdf).

Once that was changed, the Electos Studio and Site Manager ran fine.

Knut,

Reindex can be done by running Electos.exe from the command prompt passing the website via -w and the flag -reindex.

It shouldn't matter what you set in the .ws as it should determine the correct data paths itself before trying to open them. It however is possible it sometimes doesn't for some unknown reason and then tries to open them based on the .ws settings.

The standard edition warning indeed is a warning left over form older versions where we still had a version like that. Entering a valid registration code for Electos (register for free at www.electos.com (http://www.electos.com)) should get rid of the message.
