View Full Version : WebShares, Any option to . . .

Is it any option to let Electos 3.0 redo WebShares?
Background:
I had to replace the server because the old one crashed. I moved the old
Electos stuff from backup to the new server and reinstalled Electos3.0. All
of the Websites is listed in SiteManager. Do I have to manually config the
new empty Windows IIS or is it any help from Electos to do that?

These are command line parameters you might need. If you have the full
source, it is located in the cElectosApplication.pkg. I'm not sure if they
are documented anywhere...

-reindex "WebsiteNameHERE"
-setstudiodirrights
-setsitemanagerdirrights
-setwebsitedirrights

These are command line parameters you might use.

shhh... those are very secret!
I don't know if they're documented anywhere either, in theory they should
only be needed during the installation of a new Electos version, but can of
course be used at later times as well, I suppose mainly the reindex option
can be usefull.

But getting back to the actual topic I don't think there are any command
line options available that recreate webshares. So the easiest way probably
is the manual way, you could remove and create all the website entries again
in the sitemanager, but this would require creating all empty sites and
copying the content of your existing sites over it once they're created. I
think it would be more reliable to not mess with the existing sites/content.

Anyways, I'll see to it this message get's forwarded to be put on the
suggestion list since it does sound like a usefull option to have.

Hi Edwin!
Situation here is a little bit urgent - the websites corresponding to 3
domain names are stopped since wendsday lunch. If I just had a simple
checklist how to configure thing in IIS together with electos websites I
think it would be an easy task even for me.

I can't look at the demo "MyWebsite" setup on a development machine because
that one is a sub site under the "Default Website". As I remember a "www"
website corresponding to a domain name have to be at the same level as the
"Default Website".
As "Description" I typed my www.veteranlastbilar.se . In WebbApp Server
Administrator, how in properties for the actual site, should the "parameter"
value looks like, starting with -w but then? In the Example it's just "-w
MyWebsite". If it was a real website should it then look like "-w
www.MyWebsite.com"??

As you can see it's a lot of confusing settings that can be wrong and result
in the following message:

"The service could not be started because it is not correctly configured.
Make sure that its serverbindings do not conflict with other sites running
on the same machine"

However it's not totally wrong because if I go
www.veteranlastbilar.se/electos then it's possible to login.

Please, explain how this things should be configured, screenshot examples
would be easiest to understand.

Regards
Per T.

Per,

This is what I use to create a new website. Search and replace the ?? with
the website name. I save the file as the website name and back it up.. so if
my server were to ever go down I have all my website files.

Open IIS... You will go to New Website from File... Select that file and the
rest should be self-explanatory. You can also create one of these files from
an existing website.

BTW... I'm not sure if there are any settings in this file that are specific
to my setup... so buyer-beware.

HTH,

=Dave

Thanks a lot David!
Interesting, I guess this option "New Website from File..." can be found in
W2003Server, anyway can not find it on my W2000Server. It's a kind of export
though but not to XML format.

Ok, I'm running on Windows XP here so screenshots probably aren't going to
work since XP only has "Default Website", and as you said you need to create
something on the same level as "Default Website", so I'll try without
screenshots first and can always see if I can get some later if they are
needed.

IIS:

at the same level as "Default Website" create another entry called
"www.veteranlastbilar.se" and point this to your websites AppHtml folder
(typically something like: X:\Electos Install
Path\Electos\Websites\yourwebsite\Apphtml)

Under this created entry created a new entry (just as you would create site
under "Default Website") called "electos" and point this to the Electos
AppHtml folder (typically something like: X:\Electos Install
Path\Electos\v3.0\AppHtml)

WebApp Server:

Select new web application and point the program to your Electos webapp.exe
(typically something like: X:\Electos Install
Path\Electos\v3.0\Programs\WebApp.exe)
The parameter you add is -w websitename , the websitename part is simply the
name you're website has in the sitemanager (cwebsite table)

Virtual Directory, select the right virtual directory
Application Name, fill out the name of you website application. This name
can be found in your website's AppHtml\global.asa file.

Edwin

Thanks a lot Edwin!!!
Now I m glad again :-)

See my PT-comments in your message.
Also to remember, Host Headings where the www-address must be set.
This comments is just if some other run in same problem as me or if you are
going to edit documentation about this theme.

More,
I can see that this server do not have server extensions in IIS - should
this be added to IIS ?
Also, what about scripts settings in IIS ?

Regards
Per T.

Execute permissions set to "Scripts only" should suffice.

For Extensions:
Set Active Server Pages to Allowed under the Web Service Extensions
