Hi Everyone.

We are getting started on our first Electos web site with the Proffesional
Edition. Having read through the documentation, I saw nothing about
locating a site at other than the \Electos\Websites\... folder. I dont want
to place the web site here, but on another drive used for hosting our Web
Apps.

I thought I would ask if this is going to be straight forward within the
Site Creation wizard prior to attempting it. Does the wizard handle this
or do I need to do a bunch of manual configuration to make it work?

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Hi Rich,

It is not possible to move websites out of the Electos directory structure
(Electos\Websites\<websitename>). Electos uses a rootpath setting (stored in
the registry) to determine the location of the studio, the sitemanager and
the website. Therefore all of these three components must be within this
'root folder'. The location is needed to open up the right data files.

FYI, the website directory is not the only dir that needs to be web shared.
Three directories will need to be webshared to use all feature of electos.
1. the sitemanager (..\Electos\Common\SiteManager\AppHtml), 2. The electos
studio for each website (..\Electos\v<ElectosVersion>\AppHtml) and 3. The
website itself (..\Electos\Websites\<websitename>\AppHtml\).

There is a big benefit in terms of tidiness in having all the Electos
websites under one prime (Electos\Websites) folder, and we routinely put
this wherever we want.

But you have to realise that when setting Electos up! If youa re not too
far along already, I'd uninstall and reinstall, this time dictating
where to be installed. Even if you have a website defined, its not too
difficult to move it to its new "home". And something you need to learn
how to do anyway!
