Greetings,
I am not really clear on the purpose of the Crystal Reports Server that
comes with Crystal Reports XI for free. I know it is designed to allow
reports over the web, but I do not understand how exactly to get it working.
Is it 'stand alone' or do you have to have a WebApp running or some other
Web Site to run it off of? Anyone who can explain it in laymans terms?

Thanks,

Tod,

Crystal Reports Server is an application that runs on a WebServer
(Machine with IIS installed). It is an Web Application (Nothing to do
with DAW WebApp), that allows a user to use their browser to login in
this application and run Crystal.rpt's.
You can configure the Web Application, to set up users and what reports
they are allowed to run.
The user can even if rights are given change certain aspects to the report.

All in all, a very cool and powerful application for big-big businesses
with many dollars.

Although it looks like you are getting the server for free, it is
actually a limited licence. This can though be more than you need so in
that case, it is indeed for free. As soon as you are needing more than
eg 10 users, you are talking about 5 figures If I remember correct.

So Tod, have a play with it, if you have 4 to 8 hours to spare and then
decide if it is for you or not. For some developers that used compiled
reports before (not VDF embedded) it could be the alternative.

Cheers,
Marco

Marco,
The key is that this will run on a "machine with IIS installed". And I
don't have to buy any more applications or hardware, right? With a small
client that only has a few people, it seems like it might be useful for
viewing reports remotely.

Thanks,
