View Full Version : Which is better CR 9 or CR 10?

Tod Brannen

I mean for VDF our customers to purchase and use on our VDF data. Which
version should we recommend?? I heard that there were problems with CR 10. I
do not want any of those. I use 9 and it seems stable enough but I still
have deployment problems (dll heck). Do I need to recommend CR 10 to the
client? Less DLL problems or more?

CR XI is not an option.

Thanks for feedback,

Tod Brannen

Don't go to CR10 if you need to print pictures based on a file.field... it
was removed. They put it back in CRXI
I never used CR9, but have used 10, which seemed ok.

Tod,

If you have any clients still running NT or Win 98 then you need 9.

Tod,

My main used crystal work was in 8.5.
I used 9 and 10 for ad-hoc reporting.
Did yesterday a big report in CRXI and it was very nice to work with.
A lot smoother and quicker then the previous versions.

But to connect from vdf you will have to wait until the RDC stuff is done in
11.1

Hi Peter,

Like Todd, I am also unsure of where to go with Crystal. I see comments
about XI that scare me a little.
I use Crystal 8.5 and use the CrystalReportSAS add on package for my
applciation reporting.
Could you explain what changes there are and what RDC is ?

cheers, Dave Porter

Ian,
By 'Clients', do you mean workstations? The customer we are working with
has all Windows 2000 workstations, except for a laptop with XP home. What is
the problem with Win NT and 98 workstations?. Some of our in-house
workstaions are 98.

Peter,
I also have used only 8.5 and 9. But we have now a choice for this
customer of 9 or 10 (but not XI), and I wanted to see if anyone had problems
with these and would recommend one over the other as better suited to report
on VDF native files.

Thanks,

Tod Brannen

Dave,
What is CrystalReportSAS add on package? I never heard of it. Is it for
Dataflex native databases?

David,
We will not be printing pictures that I know of from the file.field,
only a possible bitmap in the header or something. Any warnings for CR 10? I
will be reporting from Dataflex native files.

Thanks,

What they mean is that CR 10 won't run on NT, 98, or ME. "Unsupported
Platforms"

Tod:
With my experience you can have DLL problems with 9 or 10! We are
currently using 10 and having very good luck with it once we did get out
of the initial DLL problems. The updates that have been made available
for it have helps out a few problems along the way also.

But if I was buying a new license, I certainally wouldn't exclude 11
from the picture either. Not sure why 11 isn't an option, but with
VDF 11.1 which will be out by the end of summer DAW says, it's support
the Crystal RDC which should help eminsily with deployment as well as
give us back features that we've been missing.

AFAIK, Win 95/98 are not supported in Crystal 9 either. The issue being
support for UNICODE.

Ido,

I think you can use it. But you have to install unicows. That is a download
from Microsoft to make it work with unicode.
