Hi,

The full source code of CrossMerge has been released as Open Source. The
code is free to use -either as is - or to be bundle parts of it into your
own code projects.

You will need Visual DataFlex 12.1 or later.

It can be downloaded from:
http://www.vdf-guidance.com/Projects.asp?Page=CMOS

Enjoy!

Thank you Nils, you are fantastic!
Thanks also for the info in Gothenburg!

Vdf2008 - 14:
To compile, the only thing I had to do was to take a copy of
SysInfo_Language_English.inc, rename it to SysInfo_Language_Svenska.inc and
put it back to AppSrc. Was it right?

Have a nice day!
Ake

Hi Åke,

Yes that was correct. This info should probably be in the installation notes
and/or on the Vdf-Guidance site.

Thanks for your kind words, really appreciated.

Best regards,
Nils G. Svedmyr

The issue has been resolved.

On Vdf-guidance - CrossMerge download section - there is a new addition "A
working helpfile (the one in the file above is corrupt)"

Thanks for the help Wil :-)

Nils,

I just downloaded the new zip and it doesn't show any of the content. The
TOC and Index are there, but not one page actually shows.

Hi Stephen,

The zip file itself is the same. You have to look below the original link
and click on the following new link:
"A working helpfile (the one in the file above is corrupt)"

It contains a help file that works.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Nils G. Svedmyr

Nils,

That is indeed the one I tried. The help file in the original (full) zip is
dated 28/02/2008 and the one in the new (help-only) zip is dated 22/04/2008
and neither work for me.

Best regards,

Nils,

I also had them both on my machine and used Beyond Compare to check them
against each other and they are a 100% match to each other - so I can't see
how one could work and the other not work.

Weird woodoo going on here...

I had send the other help file (which as you noticed in another message is
exactly the same) to Wil van Antwerpen, and he could then read it Ok. That's
why he published it on the vdf-guidance site.

It is really the original help file from the original CrossMerge product -
so I'm stunned.

What happens if you dump the attached file into the help folder?

Best regards,
Nils G.

Nils,

I'm not actually installing the rest of the CrossMerge source - I was simply
trying to run the .chm file (more out of curiosity than anything else).

SWM,

Well I was in a hurry updating the site, first I tested Chris his report
and confirmed that the chm file didn't open. I even copied it to my
desktop from my LAN in order to negate a known Microsoft issue.
Still I did see the exact same as Chris, so...

Nils mailed me a helpfile. I tested in my WinXP desktop. It worked... so
quickly uploaded the file and went on with things.

My Beyond compare actually confirms what you are saying (except that the
file is from 2004 and not 2008, but that's a minor detail) and if I
download the chm from the zipfile it now works too...

Puzzled..

Nils,

thank you very much for this.
The problem is I can't remember what I was going to do with it...... senior moment.

Enjoy!

Hi Dave,

If you try to imply that it was a long time ago the 'real' program was
released and it took way to long before it was released as Open Source, I
couldn't agree more! :-)

It really should have and its me to blame because I lost interest and have
been doing all sorts of other stuff instead. It now feels good to have it
off my shoulders.

Best regards,

swm-

I downloaded the help file zip from VDFGuidance.
Extracted the zip.
Double-clicked the CrossMergeHelp.chm
The TOC and Index display but no topic pages.
In Windows Explorer, I right click CrossMergeHelp.chm and select [Unblock]
Double-clicked the CrossMergeHelp.chm
Now the help file displays the everything.

Running Vista 64.

Aha! I have absolutely no idea why this is necessary.

I wonder if the same trick helps Chris Spencer and Stephen Meeley?

Thanks for responding Stephen.

Glad to hear it now works for you, but do you have any clue why this is? I'm
just curious.

Best regards,

Nils,

A while back there was a discussion about blocking files downloaded and/or
started from a network drive and the unblocking "feature" which is a
security feature of Microsoft Windows (XP).

>>> Aha! I have absolutely no idea why this is necessary. <<<

Nils-

I got stung by this again when I UNzipped a set of data files from another
developer. After manually UNblocking a dozen files or so, one at a time, I
did a google and came up with this excellent explanation of why the blocking
is happening.

http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=14692

The upshot is that I needed to UNblock _the_ zip _before_ extracting the
files. But in case I forget to do that, one of the responders provides a
script called UNBLOCK.JS that work like a charm.

Hi Thomas,

It seems you can safely comment out the - type DEVMODE
Just comment out all lines for this type and it should compile & run just fine.

Hello Nils.
Thank you for your quick reply.
I commented out DEVMODE,the compiler runs without errors.

I run the program, but if I click on 2. Collections of Database Connections, the screen freezes.

Thomas,

I think it might be that you need to reindex the data tables. Do that with e.g. DataBase Builder.

Hi Nils

I did that and it compiles ok (VDF7 beta3) but I get an Invalid Message (98) error on line 625 of SyncFuncs.pkg - the DDObjectID function. It seems that Data_Set_User_Interface is returning some objects (e.g. oRDS_td, a cRDSDbTabDialog) that don't have Data_Field properties.

Oh, I didn't know that VDF7 even had a beta III - and that version is so old. Why don't you upgrade to a more recent VDF version? :cool::cool::cool:.

Seriously though, I need to check into this and get back to you. Kind of busy with other stuff at the moment - so if I forget to get back to you - please remind me :).

Ok - no rush.

Peter Crook
24-Apr-2012, 11:50 AM
Having solved that problem by using Ignore_Error I get another when running CrossMerge - it hangs. I've tracked this down to the Begin_Transaction on line 1313 of cSynchronize.pkg. Hanging on this command usually indicates an alias file problem but dbExplorer doesn't show any alias files in the application.

If I comment out this and the End_Transaction the synchronising procedure runs but the log reports 'Error: 'SET_SENTINEL_NAME' No: 98 Invalid message (on line: 82318) Source Table Record id:' and 'Error: 'SET_LICENSE_TEXT' No: 98 Invalid message (on line: 82301) Source Table Record id:'.

I was synchronising the data in embedded database files between my deployment directory and development directory - as it happened the data was the same in both files which is why I didn't get an 'Edited record not saved' as a result of removing the locking performed by the Begin_Transaction.

VDF 17.0 beta 3.

Peter Crook

Well, having gone round the houses and been distracted by other aspects of the application I eventually discovered that I had set my source and destination to be the same file:o (maybe there could be a test for this) which is why it was hanging on the Begin_Transaction.

The 'SET_SENTINEL_NAME' and 'SET_LICENSE_TEXT' (American spelling noted) methods are defined in the class of the object RDCStatus_Panel (in RDCStatPnl.pkg) but ghoStatusPanel is set to Status_Panel (defined in CMVdf12StatPnl.pkg). I've cured this by adding
Handle hoOldStatPnl
Move ghoStatusPanel to hoOldStatPnl
Move RDCStatus_Panel to ghoStatusPanel
Set phoStatPnl to ghoStatusPanel
at the beginning of the DoProcess procedure at line 825 of cSynchronize.pkg (and
Move hoOldStatPnl to ghoStatusPanel
at the end of that procedure).

Now all I have to do is find out why it gives an 'Edited record not saved' error when trying to save a changed record. Do we need a Reread/Unlock pair even withing a Begin/End_Transaction? If I add this it cures that error but then I get duplicate record errors:confused:.

Nils G. Svedmyr
25-Apr-2012, 06:48 AM
Thanks Peter, I "borrowed" your code :).

Good suggestion about checking for same target & destination. Have made a not of it.

I'm very curious on why you get the 'Edited record not saved' error though. I don't have a good answer for it.

Peter Crook

I'm very curious on why you get the 'Edited record not saved' error though. I don't have a good answer for it. Possibly because I'd removed the comment characters from the Begin_Transaction in cSynchronize.pkg and then run a test from CMBuilder without recompiling CMEngine. Seems to be ok now - except:

The CompareRecords function at line 1390 in cSynchronize.pkg contains the following code which I think means a warning log entry will be generated for every successful change:
If (Length(sFromValue) > Length(sToValue)) ;
Send DoLogWork (" Warning! Updated data didn't fit in field/column:" * String(sFile + "." + sField) * "The new value should be:" * String(sFromValue) ;
* "but it is:" * String(sToValue) * "Destination Table Record id:" * String(sRecid))
Else Begin
Send DoLogWork (" Warning! Could not properly update field/column value:" * String(sFile + "." + sField) * "The new value should be:" * String(sFromValue) ;
* "but it is:" * String(sToValue) * "Destination Table Record id:" * String(sRecid))
End // Else Begin
Should it be:
If (Length(sFromValue) > Length(sToValue)) ;
Send DoLogWork (" Warning! Updated data didn't fit in field/column:" * String(sFile + "." + sField) * "The new value should be:" * String(sFromValue) ;
* "but it is:" * String(sToValue) * "Destination Table Record id:" * String(sRecid))
Else If (Trim(sFromValue) <> Trim(sToValue)) ;
Send DoLogWork (" Warning! Could not properly update field/column value:" * String(sFile + "." + sField) * "The new value should be:" * String(sFromValue) ;
* "but it is:" * String(sToValue) * "Destination Table Record id:" * String(sRecid))
I've also added Use Windows.pkg to SQL.pkg to clear the Problem Resolution panel.

Other changes I've made, to suit my personal preferences, are:
1. Reinstated the client area scroll bars in CMBuilder as the view was larger than the client area at startup.
2. Removed all references to Typeface and Fontsize.
3. Added the following method to oFromPath_bn (and the equivalent to oToPath_bn) in RDC.vw so the button is not lost on the right-hand side of the screen when it's needed:
Procedure DoEnableDisable Integer iValue
Forward Send DoEnableDisable iValue
If (iValue = 1 or iValue = 6) Begin
Set Location to 116 78
Set Location of oSnctable_Fromfilepath to 116 176
Set Size of oSnctable_Fromfilepath to 13 358
Set peAnchors to anTopLeft
End
Else Begin
Set Location to 116 458
Set Location of oSnctable_Fromfilepath to 116 78
Set Size of oSnctable_Fromfilepath to 13 378
Set peAnchors to anTopRight
End
End_Procedure // DoEnableDisable

4. Added Find buttons (copied from oFindButton_c3d on the Value Conversion tab of the Database connections tab of RDC.vw) to LogDialog.dg so that you can browse through the log records.
5. Made the following changes in LogDialog.dg:
// PDC 25/04/2012 Changed:
// Object oClose_bn is a cBitmapButton
// to:
#IFDEF ForDesigner
Object oClose_bn is a Button
#ELSE
Object oClose_bn is a cBitmapButton
#ENDIF
// End PDC
// PDC 25/04/2012 Changed:
// Set Label to "&Cancel"
// to:
Set Label to "&Close"
// End PDC
(ForDesigner is defined as True in the Conditionals tab of the Configure Workspace Properties dialog in the Studio).

Hi Ali,

There isn't as of yet. The current version is for DataFlex 19.1. Don't you have a 19.1 version as a developer, you could use?

When I make an update I would rather make it for DF 23. Would that work for you?
