closest as a relevant NG ****
(because of which I've also CC'd you, Sture and Jacob directly in case you
don't notice)

I completely disagree about wanting to see it hosted by DAW or DAE.

I think Sture has already answered the hardware worries and I certainly
don't find it slow (but then I'm on the right side of the Atlantic <g>), but
that is not where I am coming from.

I think that having DAW/DAE completely uninvolved (except in the sense that
they are very welcome to contribute - and indeed such contributions are
positively solicited!), because having it that way is a clear indicator of
the health and strength of the community beyond the vendor, which I think is
very important. All too often in the past DAW have been wary of the efforts
of third parties (I'm not going to go into the history of all that here) and
suffered slightly from a "not invented here" syndrome, all of which has
conspired to limit the growth of complimentary products, companies and
services around them to some degree. This should not happen to VdfWiki, not
because I see DAW as some kind of authoritarian evil empire (they wish!!!
<G>), but because the very existence of a totally independent entity of this
significance and (more importantly!) visibility boosts the credibility and
standing of the products and all who use them.

When I first started with my web services stuff, I talked to Chip (who was
there when I first presented it) about where I should go next with it and
whether DAC should be that place. Part of his reply was (from fallible
memory) "I sometimes think that there are things that are better if DAC
don't get involved in and I think this may be one of those things" - frankly
I feel that was a small pearl of wisdom.

So... get on there... create a user page... and a page for your company...
and contribute content (I *know* you have a load of stuff you could
offer)... and link to it from your own site(s). [Note to self: must do that
from ours. ;-) ]

There are only around 50 registered users ATM and only about 10 of those
have created user pages - we can do better than that.
