Take 2 credit cards (e.g. Visa and Master Card) as some places only take one or the other. You will get the best exchange rate if your purchases are made with a credit card (exchange rate is based upon date the interchange between banks is made). You will need some cash for small purchases (typically under $30). Use the credit card at a bank ATM to get cash (you will need you PIN for that). Make sure you have the phone # for each card in case you have to call to protect a lost card.

Don't carry a lot of cash. Don't carry a wallet. I have always used a hidden passport holder and keep my cards in with my passport. You can keep small amounts of cash in your pants pocket.

I never bring jewelry (except wedding band), and I wear a cheap watch. I don't want to advertise I have a lot of money. Which I don't .
